If you're looking for a centralized backup solution, we're using LiveBackup from Atempo. We're very happy with it. It does de-duplication and compression and encrypts everything it backs up. (both in-transit and on-disk). The administrator DOES have the ability to decrypt for restore, which may bother you or please you depending on your security requirements. :-) De-dupe is at the block level rather than the file level so infected files would only be restored to the client they were backed up from; although I assume the preference would be to not back up infected files at all! - Mark -- Mark Berman, Director for Networks & Systems Williams College, Office for Information Technology *** Please consider the environment before printing this message _____ From: Matthew Stublefield [mailto:mstublefield () MISSOURISTATE EDU] Sent: Monday, August 25, 2008 9:40 AM Subject: Secure backup solutions Our Help Desk is looking for a secure backup solution for two purposes. First, for backing up data that has been infected by viruses (and keeping that from our network and/or other backups). Second, for backing up sensitive data, such as medical or financial records. Has anyone been through this process and have some recommendations they could share? -- Matthew Stublefield Centralized User Support Specialist Computer Services Missouri State University Phone: 417-836-4898 Email: MStublefield () MissouriState edu
