My guess would be that they're laying groundwork for moves to reclaim some space that was allocated by IANA to organizations that no longer require it. This sounds like our opportunity to protect our allocations from disruption by such a move.... David Gillett

Legacy Registration Services We received this as well and I know of another sent to another university. This involves legacy IP block allocations. Our class B block was allocated in 1990 I believe by IANA. ARIN did not yet exist and inherited these allocations. This is a move to register these address blocks under ARIN along with the blocks ARIN has itself allocated to organizations. They promise to protect the historical allocation, a pro and charge $100 a year, a con with this registration. I lack and would welcome a good analysis of ARIN's request as well. Legacy Registration Services We received a rather odd e-mail from ARIN.NET this week (excerpt below). It's not clear to me what this is about. Did anyone else received one? Should we send it on to our legal Council? Ignore it? Apply for it? Does it even apply to Colleges and Universities? This is outside my domain of knowledge which, I admit, is growing smaller by the hour (grin). --- Clyde Hoadley Metropolitan State College of Denver >-------- Original Message -------- >Subject: [ARIN-20080324.9783] ARIN offers a Legacy Registration Services Agreement >Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2008 06:11:08 -0400 >From: arin-registration () arin net ... >The American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) now offers you >a Legacy Registration Services Agreement(RSA).
