Re: Patch management

PCC purchased an asset management product called the KBox
(http://www.kace.com) and part of its asset management features include
patch management. We have not fully-implemented the KBox yet, so I
don't have any specific opinions about it. Linux.com did feature PCC
and the KBox in an article on 12/19/06
(http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=06/12/13/1552240).

The KBox is basically a FreeBSD server with Apache, PHP, and MySQL
applications that work together to form the KBox application. The KBox
client has a pretty small footprint and never seems to use more than a
few kilobytes of bandwidth at any one time. It's communication is
effective enough that we have used it to track a stolen laptop.

You might want to look at this product as well:

Microsoft awarded KBOX "Most Innovative Product" Award at the Microsoft
Management Summit in San Diego. There will be an official press
announcement from the show by tomorrow.

Anyone have a patch management package that they like?

We are using WSUS for our windows boxes and this works great for windows
security and office updates. We are looking for something that can
assist in the management of such applications as acrobat.

Products to look at? Ones to avoid like the plague?
