Quoth Fretz, Kerry on 6/21/2005 7:37 AM:
I was just curious what you are using for the network username format at your institution and what you’ve found that works well for you. Do you reuse network accounts or do you have a unique username for each student coming in?
Our system allows a new user to choose from eight or so permutations of their name (mek, mkirchho, kirchhoffm, etc.). Users seem to like the choice, and it helps avoid collisions. If the student is inactive for two terms, the account is disabled. If it is disabled for two subsequent terms, the account is deleted and freed for future use. -- Matt Kirchhoff Information Technology Consultant User Support Services Office of Information Technologies Portland State University mek () pdx edu
