We currently use several firewalls on campus including our border. We prevent all inbound except port 80 and eventually we would like to proxy the traffic inbound on port 80. At first we were worried about the response that we would receive by doing this, but the response was very limited. We spent most of time teaching the researchers and scientists on how applications communicate and guiding them on how to make requests for access.
So my mail will get bounced because you don't let 25/tcp in? :) -- Eric Pancer :.: Computer Security Response Team :.: DePaul University http://security.depaul.edu/ .:`:.:':.:`:. epancer () security depaul edu pgp: 1024D/7ACBCFF3 C022 4991 41E5 51E7 683C F765 62F7 7F8E 7ACB CFF3 ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Discussion Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/groups/.
