i'm giving a talk about stuxnet next week here in Tehran which a part of it
is the Story of how CIA exploited and implanted backdoors into Soviet gas
pipe-lines and cause massive explosion in 80s , openly admitted by CIA and
U.S Army seniors at the time , all public info . this is actually not a cool
work . its old news . surprises are for those who do not read history , the

There is a version that the real "exploit" is the article in NY Times
and Washington post attributing this explosion to CIA's work. It is
far from obvious that back in 1982 the Soviet Union had fully
automated programmable SCADA systems, apparently pneumatic telemetry
was the main tool of C&C. There are plausible versions how the
explosion could have occurred just because of the weather conditions
combined with lax building practices/slave labour (try wikipedia in
Russian).

Even if this explosion was a result of stolen technology gone wrong,
there was no "exploit" - the whole chip design would have been fed
into the information-stealing process.

Social engineering on so many levels...

Regards,
Vitaly
