In 1999 or 2000, the International Financial Crypto Association
looked, and discovered that the calendar was full with events that we
thought our target market would care about, and that avoiding overlap
was impossible.  That was years ago, I assume it's gotten worse as the
field has grown.

At the same time, I think it would be helpful for the largest events
to not overlap.  Both Blackhat and Usenix have longstanding hotel
commitments which would be challenging to rearrange at short notice,
but since neither is going away, when is the first year that one could
move?
