Are you talking about something along the lines of Xen or Intel's
virtualisation extensions?

Well it was just some fancy ideas i got in the suburban train, after
an hard day at work.
First i didn't know about Xen until your reply. After reading the
official website, it seems that Xen is (or looks like) an exokernel
based OS. So, i was, without knowing this product, talking about it.

After some digs on google, i just discovered what is Intel's
virtualisation extensions. If it speeds up the whole thing, by moving
some work from software/system level to cpu level, well it seems
pretty interesting from the performance point of view. Talking about
security, i guess it can be stronger (cpu level), mostly static and
limited.
In terms of design, i prefer to see the security effort done in the
hosting system, because it has hand all over the input/output of the
hosted system and all over the hosted system since boot stage.
Plus it would means moving most security process from hosted system to
hosting system, which can benefit to the whole performance (what is
the point to have 4 antivirus and 4 firewalls, 4 ... for a system
which hosts 4 virtuals machine, not talking about the money that can
be saved).

But well, anyway the fashion movement about virtualisation and all the
buzz we can see in marketing it, is just a small first step toward
real distributed computing (not filesharing stuff hehe)
