Is there a discrete way to monitor a tty? I've only played with 'cat'ing 
them, and it tends to be noticeable to the user, considering that they 
will no longer be able to see what they type.


You could either use xkey.c, or tap (ver 1.24?), both of which are a
little better than catting the tty :)
