I actually took the A+, Network+, and Security+ certs in my freshman year of high school with absolutely no work 
experience. I felt that with a bit of studying and real world experience (Hacking and being hacked) the Security+ exam 
was extremely easy. At that point, I had about 2 years of computer security experience but I've never actually worked 
for anyone.
