CTF games are numerous and frequent, although they are mostly invite
only unless being held at a conference of some sort like Defcon,
BlackHat, etc.

One thing you might want to do is get in touch with local user groups
of security tools.  For example:

There are many user groups you can get in contact with and your local
LUG may be a good place to start:

Google is your buddy when it comes to finding groups in your area if
you have no contacts yet.
