Hard to find the SSID until a device connects to it.
Not true, AP's broadcast the SSID even if you specify them not to, easy to get the SSID with a analyzer such as Ethereal. But no device has to connect to the AP for the SSID to be seen, it broadcasts the SSID as part the association process, even if no clients are around.
