This thread looks almost beaten to death, but... here are some
useless opinions.

Since the connections to jump2.eudora.com aren't "stealth-like" or

a huge database of client information, such as Real Media had done.
Anyway, just my two cents.

When a program gratuitously connects to a central server (i.e, without
you asking it to), whose benefit is that _really_ for?

Let's say company X has a proggie which connects to their master
server - how, from a business point of view, could they justify *not*
gathering statistics on who's using it? What OS versions their users
are running? What countries they tend to come from?

<axiom class="personal">
If "wizzyware 3.14" sends info to a master server, (even just by
querying it), it should be assumed the vendor will log it and use
it. It should also be assumed that if "Wizzysoft" have the capability
to uniquely identify you and your preferences, they will do so.
(To provide a better experience for you, their valued customer ;-)
