I installed the newer snort from source in /usr/local/snort while keeping the old snort.conf around as well as the old tarball of the whole program. You pretty much just install snort like it isn't on the system at all and you can back out to the old setup by keeping the above-mentioned stuff. After you're happy with the new setup you can clean up the old snort stuff. Oo, I also saved the old snort startup script instead of overwriting it (called it snort1.8.sh and the new one snort1.9.sh). If you choose to use the ports for the new one the procedure will be almsot identical. You'll just have the stuff in slightly different locations like /usr/local/share. --- "Weber, Wes" <Wes.Weber () thomsonlearning com> wrote:
I'm running Snort 1.8.6 on a BSD system and I want to upgrade to 1.9.1. What's the best way to accomplish this?
