installation snag

Hello all,

 

I'm a fairly new person to Snort.

I am about done with the installation of every component, but I have hit a
snag.

After I downloaded the latest apache web server and started httpd, I then
proceeded to install and configure the MySQL database.

After I installed them, and tried the "# mysql -u root" command, I got the
following error:

'ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock (2)'

 

Can anyone help me on where to go next?  Any help is appreciated.
