You aren't thinking about this the right way. I can think of a brilliant way to render even "perfect" OCR (i.e. OCR as accurate as a typical human eye, and therefore immune to any kind of visual captcha obfuscuation that leaves a text message readable to a human) useless with graphics-only Email... At the risk of helping the scumbag spammers, imagine what you could easily achieve with overlaid images each with a large-ish area of transparency and partial representation of each letter.
