RE: [privacy] Frank Rich: Will the Real Traitors Please Stand Up?

You know, I had this really long response, but I'll pare it down
conisderably.

First, to posit the argument that _domestic_ surveillance of
U.S. citizens (and, completely bypassing the FISA court in the
process as prescribed by law) will somehow put a dent in al-Qaeda
is a stretch.

Secondly, the "war on terror" is something that is a (in my opinion)
a very thin and blurry line which will most probably extend into
the infinite future. See also: "war on drugs", etc.

I think people can decide for themselves how, or how not, this
either helps or hurts.

Cheers,

In a time of war, leaks like this that really aren't telling the public
anything new(CALEA is a 90's thing), and are only published to make the
current administration look bad. The real damage to us all is telling
the terrorist something they may have not considered
previously(remember, we're not dealing with a bunch of tactical geniuses
here).
