Sandy Green enscribed thusly:
I think that this would be an appropriate list to ask this question about IP security.
when is and how would the shift to IP ver 6 start ?
It has already begun. The 6bone has been in operation for some time and IANA has now assigned out the first official pTLA prefixes marking the begining of offical deployment of assignable addresses.
are there any IP ver 6 products out in the market, so that one could get a beta atleast. All major OS vendors would have to support IP ver 6. so in effect all TCP/IP stacks would be IP ver 6 compatible( and ofcourse be IP ver 4 compatible too).
Linux has certainly had IPv6 for sometime. IPv6 is available (with some effort) from CISCO. There is a beta stack for Windows NT and Sun has had IPv6 available as an add on for some time. There are a number of other products and platforms out there as well, you generally just have to ask.
I would be greatly interested to interact with persons who like discussing this topic. please email me so that we could discuss this issue(topic) . any other list where I could ask this...
Lots of links up on the 6bone web page: http://www.6bone.net
please email me your replies
thanks
sandy
