We're a small school and didn't have a lot of ways to divvy up tasking. I took a risk a few years ago and put it in the hands of our desktop support team. It struck me that operationally they have the greatest vested interest in antivirus working properly because they have to deal with the systems when it doesn't. It also provides an opportunity for our senior desktop staff to build server skills that they may not otherwise get. I like the idea of growing our own talent and it meshed with that nicely. In our case I'd have to say it's been an unqualified success. The techs do a fantastic job of making sure that systems are working, updating, and reporting their status to the AV server. Issues with antivirus can also act as warnings about other issues on a system that haven't been reported or visibly manifested yet, so it allows them to be a bit more proactive. Our primary Windows sysadmin manages it for our servers as well, however most of the work on the system is done by User Services. I am trying to find a good balance of what the security team should be focusing on so my question to this group is: For those of you who you who use enterprise antivirus management, is this managed by your Info security team, or other teams such as server or technical support at your organizations?
