Handling SMTP for Roaming Users

In Aug 02 we moved our 'intelligent' open relay to authenticated SMTP with SSL/TLS. We tell everyone with smtp clients to use this host and provide docs outlining how to do so for about 10 client applications on different platforms. More than half our students live off campus and many of them are carrying laptops they don't own, so this is the way to go and solves the travelling and POP/IMAP user's problems. This system works from on-campus and off. On May 10, 2005, at 9:00 PM, Automatic digest processor wrote:
That is the problem; they are not all on campus and the travel back and forth with laptops and want email to work seamlessly. We have set-up a anti-spam wall and use MX records to direct traffic to it. I have not yet blocked SMTP mainly because of our POP/IMAP users that need SMTP. How has everyone dealt with this issue?
