All property disposal here has to be done through Property
Management.

All system administrators must abide by the policy that
includes directions on disposal:
http://www2.oakland.edu/audit/POLCY880.HTM

Anyone who wants to be a sysadmin - a faculty member, a
central IT staff member, a distributed or local staff member -
can be a "sysadmin." The policy states that is is anyone
"charged with the support of university information
technology resources."

When a computer is disposed, it must go to Property
Management with an equipment release form. Property
Management staff members have been trained to check for a
Notice of Computer Release form attached to every disposed
computer.
A copy of the Notice of Computer Release can be seen or
printed from our UTS web site:
http://www.oakland.edu/uts/helpdesk/docs/Equiprelform.pdf

Property management checks to see if the system will boot
(systems must be formatted prior to turnover). If it boots,
the signing sysadmin is held accountable and everything is
returned to them.

If it doesn't boot, Property Management loads a linux OS on
the system and checks it out for resale.
