Pix 501 (check if this model supports before buying. If not I'm fairly certain a 505 does and I know the 515 definitely does) plus WebSense then. The pix part of the equasion can be purchased off ebay. If you want one new I think a 515R goes for like 5K, but I haven't priced pix's in a few years. Dell or cdw would be your best bet for pricing Cisco. Granted, solutions do exist outside that requirement (even very very good ones). And even though you may not agree with the strategic direction taken that's reflected in that requirement, if the solution fails to meet the requirements, it's a non-starter. "This program must be able to run on a windows box". Period. *nix-based solutions might be cheap, easy, and flexible, but you can't just ignore the customer's requirements. In my workplace a strategic decision has been made: we don't run Linux. I can't say whether that's wise or justified or plain stupid. I don't get to set strategy for my employer. And neither do consultants tasked with finding an internet usage monitoring solution. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming... - Dan Dan Lynch, CISSP Information Technology Analyst County of Placer

Dueto the nature of the customer who requires the monitoringcarried out, this program must be able to run on a windows box and needsto be veryreasonably priced (I have no control over budgetunfortunately). I amaware of programs such as ISA server (too expensive) andsquid (*nixbased). Any other sugesstions would be great.Customers network is round a bout 20 workstations that need to be monitored, sopretty small in reality.Looking forward to all your help. TIA JonoActually you can get Squid for Windows - http://www.squid-cache.org/Download/binaries.dyn. I still think Squid with squidGuard (http://www.squidguard.org/index.html) with Shalla's Blacklists (http://squidguard.shalla.de/shallalist.html) running on any Linux server would be the best choice. Download Ubuntu server and install on any old PC, or a very cheap new box, and make this the proxy server. You can then access this box using a web browser if you add Webmin (http://www.webmin.com/) and SARG - Squid Anaysis Report Generator (part of *nix distros) is available though the Webmin interface. The whole package would not cost more than $200 if you bought the PC, otherwise it is all free! -- Regards, Steve Bathurst Computer Solutions URL: www.bathurstcomputers.com.au e-mail: steve () bathurstcomputers com au Mobile: 0407 224 251 ...._ ...
