Or you can go for the OPST from OSSTMM which requires a lab exam to pass.
it won't make you leet, but it will teach you some good basics.  Like
all the other hacking or security classes, you can learn all that
stuff on your own.

As far as industry is concerned, CEH is viewed as a course of 'script kiddies'. Every other kid who knows how to run Nessus claims to be a 
'pen tester' and ethical hacker. If you just want another tag, clear it by reading dumps available from actualtests.com... but if you want 
to "stay" in job, you have to do it hands-on on your own.
