There are linux based, out of the box solutions which provide all of the below services, and more. www.contribs.org hosts the old e-smith based distribution which creates an instant gateway server with filesharing, print serving, email, easy share/group management and more. Third party rpm's can provide spam management and anti-virus watching... There are others. I think the most important issue, however is support (can you or they support and manage the solutions?) and user awareness. Users need to be made aware of the risks out there, and what they can do to prevent issues. Ask them what they would do if someone erased (or more importantly, changed) their data? What is it worth to them? Enough to spend a little on protecting it? Or having you train them?
