I think the best thing you could setup a demonstration and scare the crap out of them... My wife was convinced that her mail and IM traffic was secure until I sat her down and with ethereal took apart all the packets her machine had received in the last 30 minutes and reconstructed all her IM conversations, all the websites she had visited and all the mail she had read. Needless to say, she was very surprised and had a new appreciated for how "open" the internet was. When people are busy sailing down the river of denial, sometimes you need to give them a kick in the pants... Later, Tim. -----Original Message----- From: Simon Gray [mailto:simong () desktop-guardian com] Sent: Monday, October 20, 2003 11:35 AM To: Zachary Mutrux; Security-Basics Subject: Re: scary but true
Does anyone know of a good source (book, website) of true case studies of security incidents? I'd like to have some stories to relate to complacent coworkers, clients, etc.
None of these are technically case studies, but theres plenty of info there. http://www.securityfocus.com/search change the search area to 'incidents' theres lots on there. there's also the daily zone-h list of defaced websites >> http://www.zone-h.org/defacements/onhold << --------------------------------------------------------------------------- FREE Whitepaper: Better Management for Network Security Looking for a better way to manage your IP security?
