You don't need to run a server version of Linux to run any part of Nessus.

You will have to install both, someplace.  There must be a nessus server
(*nix only) running somewhere on your net.  You'll need to either decide if
you are going to use a *nix nessus client or a windoze nessus client to
connect to that server and perform your assessments.
