I am assuming you are talking about Red Hat Linux 9.
The nessus server is the real nessus. It performs all the tests and 
scans.  Therefore, you have to connect to a nessus server that resides 
either on localhost or on a remote box. But the workstation is useless 
without a server to connect to.
