Bart, thanks for your answer. The only thing I have that might be used is the MAC address of the access point. When I switched arp requests on in wireshark, I dont see any arp-request from/to my acces point. I see the one from the central router (ISP). Is there any way I can detect its IP address from its mac address? Frank. On Fri, Aug 13, 2010 at 9:05 AM, bart sikkes <b.sikkes () gmail com> wrote:
hello frank, if your a bit lucky you should be able to, most devices are rather chatty and when you hook them up to a device with wireshark and just check what it is sending you usually end up with the ip or the subnet of it (ARP requests for its gateway are something to look for). though if it changes IP address with a different ISP then i would assume it gets the IP via DHCP from either the ISP or your residential gateway, in any case it would then be in the range of your other connected device i assume. good luck, bart On Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 10:42 PM, Frank Moss <frankmoss1950 () gmail com> wrote:Hi guys, I am a newby here, and this is probably a very simple question. I have3comaccess point and forgot its ip address. It keeps changing whenever Ichangethe internet provider. I have fortunatelysecuredthe access point but need to add clients in its MAC filer. Thanks in advance.
