But what I gather from a bit of reading on the 'net, failure code 0 possibly points to a geo-block because when I set 
another WAN connection (my backup ISP) as the primary connection all updates complete without an error code whether run 
on an automated schedule or manually. The only difference post the WAN switchover is the ISP and therefore the IP 
address is different. I am a paying subscriber with a home subscription.

once a week for regular subscribers is probably enough... updated rules for them are not released all that often and 
are 30 days behind...

once per 24 hours is probably enough for paying subscribers...

any updates faster than once per 24 hours are on the abusive side of the fence... especially when there are, for 
example, hundreds of out-of-date systems beating on the rules servers once a /minute/ which is absolutely abusive...
