Calculating False positives/negatives rate

I am working on my thesis which aims at automating the rule generation process of Snort. To measure the success of my 
algorithm I want numbers - numbers that indicate that my model helped reduce the FP,FN rates. But how do I do that? Is 
there a way of doing this using Machine Learning or the statistics we get after the snort session is terminated (any 
other way?)? I would really appreciate any help.
