Unable to set max_mime_mem

Topic says it…if I set:

max_mime_mem

to ANY value in the range, I get the below:

ERROR: SMTP:  Could not allocate SMTP mime mempool.

I'm trying to fix:

[124:9:1] (smtp) No memory available for decoding. Max Mime Mem exceeded 

Any hints on what I may be doing wrong?  Thanks all.
