Re: Libpcap shipped with RHEL6 GA

There are some things fixed in 1.1.1 that may make the upgrade worth while.
One that we saw again recently in 1.0.0 had to do with packet timing (no
callbacks until timeout). (This was not on a RHEL system.)

Hi C. L. Martinez,

About the CentOS5.x/RHEL5.x packages, Yes, there were a few hiccups (due
to me packaging the wrong libpcap by mistake) but the packages are stable
now and we'll most likely be using them at the place where I work.
You can get everything (binary packages + source packages) at:

As for RHEL6, if it's shipping with 1.0.0, then it might be easy to
upgrade to 1.1.1 but it might have other side-effects.

Hi all,

Due to the recent problems reported by several people on this list
about installing daq+snort 2.9.0.1 under CentOS5.x/RHEL5.x platforms,
I want to know if the libpcap's version shipped with RHEL6 GA
(libpcap-1.0.0) exists problems to install snort 2.9.0.1+daq under a
RHEL6 x86_64 host.

Is it possible to install or do I need to upgrade libpcap to the
latest release under RHEL6?

Thanks.
