snort for game traffic analysis

Hi

I am interested in analysis of a tcpdump data file with snort. I essentially
want to match signatures of LAN gaming packets, ie snort flagging off when
it matches some custom rules describing an activity resembling a LAN game
being played. So are snort rules suited for such analysis?
