using snort and snort alert

good afternoon all

i just install snort with mysql on my mandrake 10.0 with snarf
i start snort with  :  /usr/local/snort*/src/snort -c /etc/snort/snort.conf
and it's right

after i start
./snortsnarf.pl /var/log/snort/alert

SnortFileInput: input file /var/log/snort/alert exists but is length 0; 
skipping it


of course alert is empty
so i scan my network on eth0
nmap 192.168.0.1

and i try to open my file alert
always empty
why?
