RE: Help please: libpcre.so.0: cannot open shared.. .

I do not have a ld.so.conf in my /etc directory?  In fact I don't have that
file anywhere - yet my snort installed correctly and so did my pcre??

Make sure your libpcre.so is in a directory that ld.so.conf will look in. 
If libpcre is in /usr/local/lib, it might not be found by the loader.
