Hi Vince, the normal windowed interfaced for the network cards on RH called
"neat" won't allow you to bring up a adapter without an IP address.
 
The solution is to use the ifconfig command to bring the adapter up in
promiscuous mode. Put your command in your rc.local file to ensure it is run
each time the machine is booted.
 
To learn how to use ifconfig - use the man command to get details
 
eg
 
man ifconfig
 
if all else fails mail me off the list and I will take you though what you
need to do.

I have to admit that I am a Windows user just learning what I can do with
Linux. I have a problem and can not find a solutions I set my one adapter to
no IP address but I when I do I can not get it to come online. Also I do not
no how to set the adapter to go into Promiscuity mode. I am running RH 8.0
and everything is working fine. I am going through the lockdown procedures
and I just need this bit of info. Any help will be gladly appreciated.
