cannot find -lmysqlclient

although i tried hard to find a solution to my
installation problem, i couldnt be successfull here
all the things that i have been trying 

#./configure --with-mysql 
this is Ok 

#make 
this command gives the following error 

/usr/i486-suse-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lmysqlclient
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[3]: *** [snort] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory
`/usr/local/etc/snort-2.0.0/src'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory
`/usr/local/etc/snort-2.0.0/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/usr/local/etc/snort-2.0.0'
make: *** [all] Error 2


it is clear that all the things related to MySQL is
installed including MySQL-client. Can the problem be
my suse system\

i will really appreciate your help
