I have had good luck with Supermicro.
http://www.supermicro.com/

They make PIII and P4 Xeon-based servers. SCSI, ~16GB RAM
possible, rack-mounts, all that fun happy stuff. They are kinda
like an i386-spinoff of low-end Sun boxes (chop +%50 off the
price).

Their A-Class system is 1U and 14" deep. Never used them, just
snarfed the link from #snort.

I would like to deploy a remote snort sensor in a branch

PC with 2 NIC's one hard drive. Something in the size of
a cisco 2600 router. Cisco makes a content engine ( 507 )
that runs linux, and has a scsi hard drive, and 2 NIC's,
and 1 serial / console port, and external scsi port.

Anybody know of a hardware manufacture who makes gear
like that, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Im not sure if the 507 could be converted, but it sure
would not be cheap!
