Manual for all the options

I've been studying the snort 1.9.x-manual that's online on www.snort.org
without finding any information regarding:

1. The "within" option:
How do I use this option?

2. The order of options:
In what order should the options be specified when using multiple
content-tags?

Is there no manual or faq for this online somewhere? I can't be the first
one to ask this...
(searching the mail-archives gave me nothing)
