Off the top of my head, (and realize that it's early in the morning for me
to be awake) you could do a 'select count(*) from event' or something.
Alternately, you could monitor the size of the tables or directory that
the database is stored in if your tables are MyISAM, that is.

hi
I am trying to creat a script which would monitor the size
of a snort mysql db, if the database is getting to big (say due to an alert storm) it would start deleteing alerts. I
was wondering does anyone know the best way to monitor the size of the database
