And if all your looking for is a quick and dirty (but minimilized) snort node, I'd recommend checkign out ShadowSlack from www.whitehats.ca. The ISO is Slackware 8 with Shadow IDS and Snort 1.9 Install and setup takes 10-15 minutes, even for me :P hth, John -----Original Message----- From: Nick Elliott [mailto:nick_e () mpt-ltd com] Sent: Wednesday, November 27, 2002 12:27 PM To: snort-users () lists sourceforge net Subject: [Snort-users] Easy move to Linux platform Hello all If any of you are considering moving from your nice warm Windows platform to Linux, but are daunted by the prospect as a newcomer to it, I can highly recommend Easy IDS from Argus. There is a proliferation of (mostly free!) tools and packages for this platform that makes it a much more powerful prospect for IDS than Windows imho. I've managed to get two RedHat 8.0 Snort sensors with Mysql and Acid going with few difficulties even as a total Linux novice. Idiot questions I asked of Argus were dealt with swiftly. Now I just have to learn how to use Linux.. Please note I don't have any connection with Argus commercial or otherwise. http://www.argusnetsec.com/easy-ids-cd.html Regards Nick Elliott ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Get the new Palm Tungsten T handheld.
