I'm an idiot. I didn't realize that my NUMPROCS statement in boot.ini wasn't working, I opened up task manager and found that it was still showing two processors. I fixed the typo and it's working now. Have you removed WinPcao, rebooted, shutdown, removed NIC, rebooted, shutdown, installed NIC, rebooted, installed WinPcap, and rebooted? You could also try swapping out the NIC for another brand. You will need to use Snort -W to find the NIC for sniffing then use Snort -v -ix (x is the number of your NIC) Michael Steele | System Engineer / System Administrator mailto:michaels () silicondefense com <mailto:michaels () silicondefense com> http://www.silicondefense.com <http://www.silicondefense.com> -----Original Message----- From: snort-users-admin () lists sourceforge net [mailto:snort-users-admin () lists sourceforge net] On Behalf Of Madziarczyk, Jonathan Sent: June 18, 2002 7:48 AM To: 'Michael Steele'; Madziarczyk, Jonathan Cc: snort-users () lists sourceforge net Subject: RE: [Snort-users] WinPcap 2.3 and Win2k I installed using the procedure for Win32/Apache/ACID on the SiliconDefense website and the links it provided to the installer. Snort was installed by extracting it and copying to the requested directories. WinPcap was an installer and I didn't see any errors on install. Now for what it's worth, I also ran the Windows Update feature and put all the latest security patches on Win2000. How did you install Snort? Did you use an installer? Did you manually install Snort and WinPcap? I've fixed a multitude of these errors in the past couple of weeks. Fatal Error, Quitting.." The FAQ says this can be due to an old incompatible, or uninstalled version of WinPcap. I'm using 2.3 and the install appears to be running successfully. Is there any way I can check to make sure it is, or is this already a known issue? Thanks, JonM
