SNORT dies

Hi
I am a new user of snort .I am trying to run snort and it dies by itself.I 
am a student also .I am running it on  Redhat and here is the detail

Linux 2.4.9-13SGI_XFS_1.0.2 i686


Two times it has died with these messages
1> Recieved SIGNAL 15

2> Seg fault.

I have no clue what these means .

ANy hep wil be appreciated.I am running by hand and first time it lasted for 
2 min and for the other 20 min.
