You need at least the client libraries from mysql...

Something like the following gets you there:

./configure --without-server 

And since you're on solaris check the following:

http://www.mysql.com/doc/S/o/Solaris.html

(And hit next until you have the version of solaris that applies....)

I'd also suggest you go get the recent stable from mysql.com 3.22 is a little 
older, 3.23 is the current stable.

There is quite a few subtleties about mysql on solaris
