Snort outside of firewall and no alerts???

  I have snort setup inside the network and it works fine. I put it on an 
outside box with the same rules and with ipchains running. Then I do the same 
scan from a box outside the network and I get nothing. Is there certian 
traffic you have to let through your firewall for snort to work? Also can I 
setup the HOME_NET to XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX for a spacific host with out the /32 ?
