Snorting to logs, Winpopup and Syslog simultaneously

My installation of snort does not write to the log
directory specified with -l directive when a -M option
to send alerts via Winpopup is also present.

The "alert" file is not being created at all. I have
currently worked around this problem by starting two
instances of snort for the network segment.

Currently it seems to be working smoothly, however I
am not sure of the implications of such an arrangement.
