Promiscious mode required?

Hello,

My Snort server seems to be running fine. I can run reports, view tcpdump
traces etc fine. When I run IFCONFIG, it doesn't say my interface is in
promiscuous mode. How could that be if Snort is working and capturing
traffic? What am I missing here? Anybody know?
