Remember, we're no longer just talking about restricting the use of federal funds for cloning. At issue is a flat ban, with criminal penalties up to 10 years in prison. The Brownback bill says: "It shall be unlawful for any person or entity... to perform or attempt to perform human cloning or to participate in an attempt to perform human cloning" (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d107:s.01899:)

On Monday afternoon EST, Gregory Stock and Leon Kass will be jousting for an hour about cloning and other biotech possibilities on NPR's Talk of the Nation. Stock is the author of the recently release book, "Redesigning Humans: Our Inevitable Genetic Future" and the director of UCLA's Program on Medicine, Technology, and Society. Leon Kass is the chair of the US Bioethics Advisory Commission.
