Hey guys, happy Friday !! Do any of you know of a good range extender (antenna booster) I could buy so that I can conduct a pen-test from a parking lot or from a cafe across the street of the target ? It needs to be compatible to work with Backtrack 4 and wepbuster Thanks so much in advance and have a great weekend ! http://www.terrycutler.com
Hi Terry, A directional antenna like a Yagi helps a ton. A inline linear amplifier can give you some more oomph if you need help injecting packts. For all your shopping needs: http://www.l-com.com/ I like their directional radome enclosed yagi's--very high gain in a rather plain looking package that fits in luggage easily too. These even work well inside their cardboard packing box for even more stealth for those engagements where you've been sent in without the local staff knowledge and told to rummage around the parking lot and see if anyone notices. It's also useful for positioning, otherwise the round shape make it roll around the dash a bit. The only trick is that you need to select the right pigtail cable to match with your current wireless card. Backtrack doesn't care about these layer 1 sorts of things--so long as your card has an external antenna jack, and is happy with backtrack, you should be fine. The other caveat is that if you want to assess b/g as well as a, you'll need 2 different antennae (assuming your card supports A).
