1) It is part of any comprehensive vulnerability analysis
2) It tells you what your exposure is if:
 - your firewall fails (tech error)
 - your change management process fails (process error)
 - your admin types iptables -F on the production environment in stead
of the test-environment by accident (human error)
3) it makes sure you have defense in depth (multi-layer security)
4) it is always better to know than to assume
